The 2023 World Athletics Championships kicked off on Saturday in Budapest, Hungary. The event features more than 2100 athletes from over 200 teams as they compete in the Hungarian capital for a world title. The weekend kicked off with the men's race walk on Saturday morning and will conclude with the women's 4-by-400-meter relay on Sunday, August 27. The World Athletics Championships in Budapest are about showing the world the best that Hungary has to offer, a true celebration of sport on a unique stage. It is the first time that athletics' top event will be held in Central Europe in one of the world's most impressive cities. On Thursday, a total of seven more gold medals will be awarded with the finals of the the men's and women's 35-kilometer racewalk taking place in the morning and five more event winners being crowned in the evening session. Most notable, the men's 400-meter, men's long jump and women's 400-meter hurdles will take place as some of the most popular athletes will take to the track for those events. 

With Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone not competing in the hurdles, the favorite to take the title is Femke Bol after Dalilah Muhammad was shockingly eliminated in the semifinals. In the men's long jump, Jamaica is leading the way with Wayne Pinnock and Carey McLeod out front, but with defending champion Wang Jianan in the mix, the first-place spot will not be awarded without a battle.
